The Meaning of Easter
In Old Testament times, the priest would bring bulls, goats or a spotless lamb without any blemishes to be sacrificed as a sin offering for himself and for the people. The blood would purify and make atonement (forgive, make amends) for their sins. This was the old order of atonement. When Jesus came, He was a representation of the sacrificial lamb to take away the sins of the world. He was the final sacrifice. We no longer have to sacrifice animals to make atonement for our sins. Jesus has done this once and for all. It’s His blood that cleanses us from all sin. He was crucified on the cross (the form of execution in those days). The sin of the world was upon Him, yet He was without sin and blameless. He bore it all. This is why Jesus is referred to as the ‘Lamb of God’. He was bodily resurrected (came back to life) on the third day. He appeared to many – eating and drinking with them. He appeared to them for 40 days, then ascended (went up to) Heaven. Acts 1: 1-11.

The mantra of the day seems to be, “Just give me a praise band and a worship team. Just give me a fellowship circle and some refreshments. Just give me a support group and an accountability partner. Just give me a coffee bar and moments of quiet reflection.” I suppose all of those things have some merit, but let the cry of the true Apostolic ever be, “Give me a red-hot preacher saturated with prayer. Give me a message from God’s throne that pierces deeply into my heart and spirit. Give me conviction that springs from the energy of God’s Word. Give me preaching.”

Lose God’s Presence?
David did not have the opportunity to receive the Holy Spirit the way New Testament believers have received the Holy Spirit. His anointing was for ministry. The Spirit came upon him at special times for a special work, but the Spirit of God did not fill him as it fills believers today.
If David was afraid to lose his empowerment from God, how much more should we panic at the thought of losing God’s presence? We should take the advice of Scripture and avoid quenching or grieving “the holy Spirit of God”
(I Thessalonians 5:19; Ephesians 4:30).
