We are bought with a price as we glorify God in our bodies and our spirits, which are His (I Corinthians 6:20). Although we are free moral agents of free choice, God desires that we choose and use our time wisely as we serve Him as the Body of Christ. We are His Hands, His Feet…His Body. Realistically, we take the time out or “free up the time” to do whatever we really have a strong desire to get done. In choosing, it sometimes becomes a matter of preference, passion, and priority. Have you or someone you know ever been in an emergency or a life or death situation, and you felt that God rescued “just in the nick of time?” We often say, “He’s never too early, never too late, but always right on time!” Well, what quality “time” do we really give God in our communication and relationship with Him? He shows up on time for us, but do we show up on time for Him? Put time on your hands! I’m not talking about the watch on your wrist, secured slightly above your hand, which we often watch closely, because we are so conscious of time, in order to fulfill other temporal and less valuables duties on our schedules. Take off the watch; clasp your hands in prayer…there is “free time on your hands.” It’s a mindset…you are free to pray…you are free in Christ…you do have free time to pray!

When you look at your hands, imagine using them to turn over an hour glass filled with the “sands of time” and allowing it to be a simple reminder of how time flies, and let it give you the incentive to take a timeout to use your time wisely to pray. Ecclesiastes 9:10 states “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” In light of eternity, we really have “all the time in the world” allocated to seek the face of God and things pertaining to His kingdom! We often get caught up with the hustle and bustle of life and the demands of a fast-paced society. But, don’t be so busy “making an earthly living,” that you forget about “making an eternal life.” Value the time you have before you…Yesterday is the past (gone), tomorrow is the future (unpromised), but today is the present (tangible). There is no time like the present! Psalm 69:13 declares “But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time:” Prayer is our lifeline to God, especially in this troubled world and these last days we live in.

Value every moment of time, and realize we are not in a “crunch time” for prayer. We can use time wisely, and pray! We sing the song “I Am Free,” know this too, “Through you (Jesus) my heart screams, I am free; I am free to run; I am free to dance; I am free to live for you; I am free; I am free;” but…you are also FREE TO PRAY! So, let me ask that question again. Regarding prayer, do you have “free time on your hands?” I believe the answer for all of us is “Yes!”

Are you Healthy?

Some people avoid going to the doctor because they don’t want to find out that anything is wrong with them. Some people avoid going to church for the same reason. But ignorance of our sickness doesn’t make us healthy, and ignorance of our sin doesn’t make us innocent.  Roman law is considered to be the source of the idea that ignorance of the law excuses no one. But the concept originated much earlier. When God gave the law to Israel, He established that even unintentional sin required a sacrifice for forgiveness (Lev. 4; Ezek. 45:18-20).  In his letter to Christians living in Rome, the apostle Paul addressed the issue of ignorance or lack of understanding. When people were ignorant of God’s righteousness, they made up their own (Rom. 10:3). When we live according to our own standards of right and wrong, we might feel good about ourselves, but that doesn’t make us spiritually healthy. Only when we are measured by God’s standard of righteousness do we know the condition of our spiritual health.

Why Does God Use Flawed People?

I always wondered why God would use people to represent Him. I wondered why He would use us for the work He wants to do in the world. Why would He assign us to be His mouthpiece, hands and feet? I mean, people have a consistent, faithful track record of unfaithfulness. We are notorious for deception, for making things all about us. Why in the world would God use us to get His work done when we are more than likely to delay all the good He wants accomplished?  I find the human life to be so inconsistent –So why use people? Why use broken cisterns? Why the continual battle with us and with ourselves to be emptied of selfishness, pride, insecurity, and wickedness in order for the work to be done?

Why not use the angels to do the work? After all, there were angels that visited the shepherds on the night Jesus was born. It was an angel that visited Daniel and Isaiah. There was an angel each that visit Elizabeth and Mary. Angels came to get Lot from Sodom and Gomorrah. And there was an angel that came to get Paul from prison. So why use people to declare the truth of The Word? Why use people at all?

I have a few ideas as to why. First off, God uses people to show those He uses of how much they need Him to get things done. Secondly, God uses people to show other people that our imperfections illuminate God’s perfection. Thirdly, God uses people to show others that, despite all the leaks in their personality and character, He still has the power and capacity to lead them into good works and to transform their lives.

His plans are so great that not even our imperfections can hinder the ultimate work He is doing in the world. Maybe God uses us to draw us closer to Him. When we see how amazing He is, we honor and revere Him more. And when we understand our place, we are filled with thanksgiving to be chosen as a tool for the work He is doing. By using people, there is never a question of whether His lessons are something we can relate to.  So I guess the real reason God uses people to minister and do the works He wants done in the world is because He’s not insecure. People always feel they need to prove something.  But God knows that if a person is really seeking Him, they will find Him. He’s not hiding, He’s made Himself plain all around us and, to top it off, He made this promise:  “For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. ‘You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”  Jeremiah 29:11-13.  So despite how badly we fail to reflect the holiness of God, He knows that it is the humble heart that will be willing to see. How does it feel to know that, even though we are flawed, God still wants to use us? Have you experienced a time when God used your imperfections to glorify Himself?

Mission…South America

Tune in now for the latest report from Bill Taylor. Where I am staying is very HOT – I haven’t stopped sweating since I got here. Tuesday we went to Cuenca, Ecuador where Jefferson’s parents live….very cold there…thank God…lol! It is just lovely but treacherous….one curve after another in the mountains…sharp ones….no straight roads anywhere….three hours plus one way…..it was very taxing as these people here pass in no passing zones….they don’t slow down for curves….even Jefferson’s Dad drives this way…wow!! Going to Cuenca we got pulled over in the truck we were in because we were four in front with no seat belts….so the driver got a ticket….while he was at the back of the truck with the policeman I happened to take a picture of them from the mirror…the policeman saw me and came walking back up to the truck and told me NOT to take any more pictures…I thought I was going to jail and would have to call and tell you that I would have an extended stay here…but thank God that didn’t happen. The clouds were covering the roads to the point where we could hardly see.  I filmed some of the roads, the cars, the people on the roads, etc so you could see how it is –unbelievable!    You just about have head-ons all the time because it zig zags everywhere…road signs mean nothing…I am serious. There are tons of banana trees with huge bunches of bananas on them and coco trees, chocolate and sugar cane. Tell everyone at church that I really am missing them!!  I leave here Friday to go to Pasto Columbia where Stiven lives. (At the time of this printing..saw from FB post he made it to Columbia and there was suppose to be a music concert in which Bill would be a part of, but no word from him yet so until next week – stay tuned right here and keep him in your prayers.)

What Do You Have?

Exodus 4:1-4:20

God never directs our attention to what we don’t have, but to what we do have even though it seems small.   God gave us everything we needed to do the job.  It is not your ability, your knowledge, your talent, or the size of your gift or the beauty of your gift that matters.  All that matters is: How much of God is in your heart.  Your heart represents what you have that you’re willing to surrender to God.  When God gets in it, it’s enough. The difference is the power of God.

I have just enough meal and oil for one little cake said the widow of Zarephath.  I have just a little pot of oil, said the widow woman who was in debt and in danger of losing her sons to a life of slavery.  There is a lad here with two fish and five loaves of bread, but what is that among so many asked Philip a disciple of Jesus.  But in each case their little bit was enough.  When they put it in God’s hands it became more than enough.  When Samson was assaulted by the philistines, he started looking around for something, anything that he could use and he found the jawbone of an ass and with it slew a thousand men.  What made this jawbone Samson’s weapon of choice? Answer: It was there, it was available, and it was within reach.

God is not looking for greatness, (any old stick, any old bush will do). All God needs is for you to make what you have available to him.

Memorial Day is a public legal holiday in the United States of America and among its armed forces worldwide. It honors U.S. citizens who have died in war and the price that was paid fighting for the freedom that we now enjoy.

The word memorial in scripture comes from a word that means to prick, to pierce, or to penetrate the memory.  So memorials are to aid man’s memory in preserving what he cherishes the most. All throughout the Bible God ordained and instituted the practice of building and having memorials because he wants us to remember. The very first Passover was to be a memorial to the Jewish people forever. It would serve to remind them how God spared their firstborn and how He delivered them from Egyptian bondage.  The Israelites when they were in the wilderness were commanded to take a pot and fill it with manna. They were instructed to do that so they would not forget how God had provided for them.  Then they came to the Jordan River and Joshua commanded twelve stones to be taken out of the Jordan River and be set up as a memorial of how God cut off the waters of the Jordan and allowed them to pass over on dry ground.

There are three reasons to build memorials.  1. To increase your own faith. Too many times we forget the things that God has done for us in the past so we have no faith for the future.  2. To increase the faith of others. Build so that it will encourage others to have faith.  God parted the Jordan for me and he can do it for you.  3. To give you victory over the devil.  The devil will tell you that nothing happened.  You can point him back to your memorial and tell him God did it for me right there.  Reflect upon your spiritual memorials today- Praise and rejoice!

What is Success?

We judge a man by what we see and visibly make an opinion of whether or not he is successful.  God measures things differently than man…his ways are higher than ours and his end results always are successful!  Success depends upon our obedience when we submit our will.  God puts success in you when you do what He calls you to do.  God called us to be “witnesses”.  You don’t need a lot of knowledge to witness about how God has changed your life!  Everyone has a personal testimony.  It doesn’t matter what the background, where  you came from or who you are kin to – you have a testimony.  People can argue with theories, and speculation, but cannot argue with your experience with God and what he has done for you!  Our world wants to hear a witness!  Even if they reject Christ, we are successful in doing our part of sowing the seed by our witness.

The story of the Samaritan woman that met Jesus at the well in John 4 was powerful.  Verse 39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. 40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.  41 And many more believed because of his own word;  42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

The woman rushed back to the city and told the men of the city her personal testimony.  The Bible says many more believed after they heard Jesus speak.  Then the men said to the woman that they believed because they had their OWN experience with Jesus and not just because of the woman’s testimony.  This woman’s personal testimony was so effective that it moved an entire city towards Jesus Christ.  Find someone today and share how you received the Holy Ghost, how God has healed, delivered, supplied your needs – Be a Witness – that’s real success!

Bulletin – 5/13/12

Heavenly Father we thank you for our mothers to whom You have entrusted the care of every precious human life from its very beginning in the womb. You have given to woman the capacity of participating with You in the creation of new life. Grant that every woman may come to understand the full meaning of that blessing, which gives her an unlimited capacity for selfless love for every child she may be privileged to bear, and for all Your children.

To mothers, You have been given the great privilege and responsibility of being a child’s first teacher and spiritual guide. Grant that all mothers may worthily foster the faith of their children, according to the Word of God and following the examples of other holy women who follow Christ. Help mothers to grow daily in knowledge and understanding and grant them the wisdom to impart this knowledge faithfully to their children, and to all who depend upon them.

Assist all “spiritual mothers”, those who, though they may have no children of their own, nevertheless selflessly care for the children of others — of every age and state in life. Grant that they may know the joy of fulfilling this motherly calling of women, whether in teaching, nursing, religious life, or in other work which recognizes and fosters the true dignity of every human being created in Your image and likeness.
